Next up in our #DandDstory is my mom Marilee. Every family has the one who keeps us all sane and in check, that's my mom. When they talk about people wearing many hats, she is it.
From the previous story, you learned that Marilee was the one who took care of the operation when Dan was at the fire station. But did you know Marilee was a true "city girl" and knew nothing about cattle or livestock before meeting Dan? That changed quickly.
Marilee not only took care of everything but also us girls. With all of our activities growing up, her part time job, Dan working 24/7, and taking care of the livestock, she still managed to keep us all in line. She learned the ropes of how to take care of livestock and everything that entailed. Something that comes second nature to my sister and I who grew up with it, she learned along the way.
What I remember most about watching her when I was younger was how she had to adapt and figure things out on her own. Being a woman in agriculture can be difficult, especially when it comes to physical labor. Dan is able to "man handle" things to get them done but for my mom she would take a step back and analyze the situation. Work smarter not harder, that is Marilee.
